Papers for the Media and Globalization section are due on a rolling basis one week after an assigned reading. You only need to do one response paper. 1.) Operation Beautiful – Create a positive message to be posted around campus!

· Be creative! Messages will be posted on our Facebook page and voting will begin for the top messages!

· To participate pick up an application in front of Walb, room 234, Gates Sports Center front desk, or Student Housing Club House.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three messages.

Extensions for Quizzes

Due to various issues involving some quizzes showing up properly and/or one of our scheduled class meetings, I have set a new deadline at 11 AM on M 21 Feb to complete quizzes over the Carey, Tomlinson, Bennett, and Durham readings. Please note that these only will show up if you had not opened these quizzes previously. Also, if you do not score at least a six or better on at least four quizzes, I will deduct the equivalent of a full letter grade from whatever you earned on your response paper. If you have another issue regarding the quizzes, you will need to negotiate that with me individually no later than today, F 18 Feb.

“LIONESS” – THERE FOR THE ACTION – MISSING FROM HISTORY

Dear Staff/Faculty Member:

You and your students are invited to the Fort Wayne premiere of “Lioness,” a documentary film by Meg McLagan and Daria Sommers. The film profiles a group of women soldiers who were sent to Iraq in supporting roles, but were soon drawn into combat during counterinsurgency battles. Known as Team Lioness, they were the first generation of American women to return home as combat veterans.

The program will be followed by a question-and-answer session.

Emergency Funds Available

A group formed to honor the memory of Steve Hollander, makes grants to students recommended to its attention by faculty and staff. The Society provides grants of up to $300 to academically deserving students faced with financial emergencies that would significantly but temporarily disrupt their studies. Generally, the Society does not award money for books, tuition, rent, or supplies.
No student will receive more than $300.00 per semester. The Society relies on your vigilance in identifying those in need of assistance and your discretion in recognizing true emergencies.

If you are in need of financial assistance as a result of a true emergency unrelated to needing money for books, tuition, rent, or supplies, please send carr@ipfw.edu an email explaining how you might qualify for consideration.

Student Achievement Celebration Nominations

It is the time of year to start making nominations for the upcoming Student Achievement Celebration! IPFW is home to many students, staff, and faculty that help IPFW exceed expectations when it comes to student life and campus activities.

If you would like to nominate an individual or organization for one of the awards granted at the Student Achievement Celebration, please check out the Nomination page of the new SAC section of the Student Life website. Please also pass along this information to any students, staff, or faculty members who may wish to nominate someone.

This year, we are going green by making our entire nomination process paperless using an online submission form. Our hope is that this will also make it easier for nominators to submit their information to our office.

Please submit your nominations no later than Friday March 4, 2011 by 5pm.

And please feel free to contact me via email with any questions, comments, or concerns relating to the Student Achievement Celebration.

The externship program is designed to give IPFW undergraduate students the opportunity to explore a specific career field while networking with professionals and alumni within the community…so, it is kind of like a mini-internship. We run it during Spring Break!
